We are hugely excited to share shmu’s Annual Report for 2023/24, a celebration of another remarkable year of connecting people, empowering communities, and creating real and lasting change across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

This year’s report highlights the incredible work undertaken by our dedicated team, inspiring volunteers, and supportive partners. It tells the story of how we’ve responded to the challenges of a post-pandemic world and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis with innovative programmes, creative approaches, and an unwavering commitment to those who need us most.

From expanding our Adult Services to support asylum seekers, refugees, and individuals with additional needs, to enabling young people to explore their creativity through film, radio, and music, shmu has continued to provide meaningful opportunities for people to grow, connect, and thrive.

Key Highlights of 2023/24 Include:

• Empowering young people through Youth Media projects, including award-winning campaigns and film initiatives funded by the Sean Connery Foundation.
• Delivering tailored employability programmes like Foundation Apprenticeships and Creative Wellbeing to help participants overcome barriers and achieve sustainable positive destinations.
• Driving cultural innovation through our leadership in the North East Culture Collective, fostering creative co-design projects with communities.
• Showcasing the power of collective action, as demonstrated by impactful community campaigns for Mental Health Awareness Week, Challenge Poverty Week, and Climate Week North East.

For the first time, our Annual Report also features embedded films and audio content, bringing to life the voices and stories of our participants, volunteers, and communities in a dynamic and engaging way.
