What is shmu Youth Media?
shmu's Youth Media Project provides creative opportunities for young people (12-19), primarily from the regeneration areas of Aberdeen, to participate in all aspects of the production of regular radio and TV broadcasts, films, press stories and music.
The Youth Media Project builds on the success of a number of projects that shmu has delivered, including; the Youth Radio Project (YRP) which supports young people to broadcast weekly live radio programmes across the city on shmuFM; the Youth TV project which supported young people to produce and present live TV programmes and produce short films; and the shmuSOUND Youth Music Initiative project which supported young people to create, record, broadcast and disseminate original, previously unrecorded music. There is also a Youth Journalism Team who meet weekly on a Tuesday between 5:30 and 6:30pm at shmu. The group report on things that are important to them as well as great events taking place throughout Aberdeen and within shmu. They produce their own magazine which is distributed throughout the city and they have recently launched their own blog which you can check out here.
