Thanks to funding from the Fairer Scotland Fund, we are delighted to confirm we will be running another block of our successful 'Introduction to Journalism' course, starting on Wednesday the 23rd of January.
The 6-week course is free and designed to help support and train volunteers for the seven community magazines, so places are reserved for those from Cummings Park/Northfield, Middlefield, Mastrick, Seaton, Tillydrone, Torry and Woodside.
As the funding is to help generate content for the magazines, those taking part in the course would be expected to have some involvement with their local publication already, or be willing to get involved in the future.
Taught by shmu's resident journalist Stevie Kearney, the course takes you through all you need to know to get started in magazine journalism - from sourcing stories and interview technique to networking and writing tips.
We'll also be running a three-week Intermediate Journalism course in the spring - more details on that when we have them. Those completing the Introduction to Journalism course will be eligible to apply for the Intermediate course.
So if you're involved in your local community, care about your area and always wanted to learn how to write and make a difference, then get in touch to sign up for our free course. Sessions are delivered at shmu in Woodside and will run on Wednesday nights from 6:30pm-8pm, starting on January 23rd.
To apply for a place, you can email Denise on denise@shmu.org.uk or call on 01224 515013.
