Create Express Transform: Meet the Tutors

We welcome Grace, Iona & Don to the shmuCREW!

Our new Create Express Transform project has now started. The project includes Music Makers and Songwriting courses for adults and we’d like to introduce you to the tutors who will be running them:

Grace (pictured left)
A community musician based in Glasgow, she’ll be running the forthcoming Songwriting course.

Grace said “I strongly believe in inclusion within the arts and that everyone should be given the opportunity to get involved in music. I love nothing more than singing at the top of my voice in my van whilst the sun is shining - especially if Fleetwood Mac are on the radio!! I’m  really looking forward to the upcoming project and meeting everyone at shmu.”

Iona (pictured centre)
Iona will be running the Music Makers course and will begin by working with groups from Turning Point Scotland and Aberdeen Cyrenians.

Iona is a community musician based and trained in the North-East of Scotland. A fiddle player, all-round musician and songwriter/composer, she has a passion for making music accessible, fun and engaging for all, regardless of ability or circumstance.

She said “I’m really excited to start working with shmu to deliver music sessions for adults. I can’t wait to meet so many new people and see what we create together!”

Don (pictured right, with Benji)
Don is a freelance sound engineer with experience in live sound, studio recording and music production and will be providing tech support.

He’s also done some work for shmu before, so it’s great to have him involved in this project.

He said “I really enjoy working with shmu and helping others to learn about making music. When I’m not working I enjoy long walks with my dog Benji and playing guitar.”

The Create Express Transform project is supported by the Inspiring Scotland Creative Communities Fund.
