An exciting digital broadcasting future for the city

shmu to apply for small-scale DAB licence

We are applying for a small-scale Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) licence through Ofcom to run an initiative that will provide an exciting opportunity for the future of radio in the city.

The new Small Scale DAB platform will carry up to twenty different stations in digital quality and will provide an affordable long-term digital future for many existing broadcasters, as well as offering a platform to support local broadcasters to flourish.

Community, hospital and student radio alongside smaller commercial broadcasters and specialist national networks could all feature on the platform.

The deadline for our application is Monday 25th April, so we would need to hear from broadcasters by midday on Friday 22nd at the latest. The easiest way to do this is by filling in the expression of interest form on our dedicated website for the platform https://aberdeendab.org.uk/

If successful with the licence application, the service will be up and running by January 24th 2024.
