shmu teams up with BP and ARAMARK

A number of our young people were donning their best clobber and braving the hailstones, gale force winds and snow to make the trip to the BP headquarters at Dyce this morning. The group, made up of trainees from previous Positive Transitions courses, our Early Interventions course for 14 – 19 year olds and members currently on our Positive Transitions 16 course were treated to lunch, tea and cakes as part of a TRAIN initiative developed by our shmuTRAIN team.
The trainees were shown around the building, including the ‘ace room’, where people communicate with the staff on their oil rigs. The purpose of the visit was to highlight the trainees to a possible 3 month placement with the company, working for ARAMARK in the catering department of the building. One fortunate young person will gain invaluable experience working in the building with an experienced company that has a massive cafeteria and food stations on each floor.
At the end of the placement, the lucky trainee may have a chance at full time employment and will also have gained food hygiene and COSHH certificates. This placement will be available every 3 months, so the young people visiting today who miss out on this opportunity can be liable for the next one.

Early Interventions
The shmuTRAIN Positive Progressions programme targets and engages young people in the Senior Phase who have been identified as being unlikely to secure a positive destination when leaving school. The programme offers an academic year-long course, which combine skills development with employability support, supported by staff from shmu based within the school.
