Youth Development Worker

37 hours per week,  £30,885- £33,935 p/a (pro rata)

Thanks to funding from Young Start (The National Lottery Community Fund), we're looking for a full time Youth Development Worker to join our team.

No matter what your job is at shmu, everyone’s work is about the same thing – transforming the lives of individuals and communities across the North East. We are looking for an exceptional, passionate individual to join our team as Youth Development Worker.

This role is all about expanding the reach of our creative youth projects - engaging even more young people from Aberdeen’s regeneration communities. You’ll help deliver and develop activities for 11-18-year-olds while also collaborating with 18-24-year-olds to create exciting new opportunities for creative young adults.

You’ll be leading creative media sessions, facilitating skills-based workshops, and supporting young people to achieve accreditation, including Youth Achievement Awards. You’ll drive outreach initiatives, build partnerships to support recruitment, and ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of our programmes.

A key focus of this role is embedding wellbeing support within creative activities - creating a safe, inclusive space where young people can build confidence, strengthen social connections, and gain valuable skills to support their journey into education, employment, or volunteering.

This role is available as either full time or job-share for the right applicants and is funded for three years.

As an organisation, we passionately believe in supporting people to expand their horizons and achieve their full potential. Our approach, methods, projects and initiatives are nationally recognised, positioning us as a centre of excellence for the work we do.  This approach also applies to our staff team. We believe in supporting the members of our team to achieve their full potential and offer:

  • support to undertake relevant training and qualifications
  • regular support and supervision
  • flexible working hours and a TOIL system
  • initial paid holiday entitlement of 34 days (inclusive of any public/bank holidays which you may choose to request)
  • a company sick pay scheme, effective from the first day of employment
  • a stakeholder pension, with an annually reviewed employer contribution (currently 5.5%)
  • a hybrid/office occasional working model to allow for working from home.
