Youth media covers AIYF launch

On the 12th June 2017 Aberdeen International Youth Festival opened up its temporary exhibition (12th June- 5th August) for the first time in order to launch the kick-start of the AIYF festival. The pop up gallery was filled with a collection of artwork that represented a hot air balloon.

This month we have seen many of the Youth Media crew receiving certificates for their Saltire Awards!

Shmu works with Zone Youth group to create film about gender pronouns

shmu staff have worked with Zone Youth, an Aberdeen based LGBT+ group, to create a short film about the importance of using correct gender pronouns. Young people in Zone Youth were able to develop ideas and create a script and storyboard with the support of shmu staff, as well as work together to create the film and learn film skills.

Youth Media team shines a light on local festival

In February the Youth Media team visited the third annual Spectra Festival in Aberdeen City Centre as part of their continued coverage of Aberdeen's Collective Festivals. The group used their film training to create a short film documenting the exhibits at the festival, including a short interview with contributing artist Sara Stroud, which you can watch below:

First Saltire Awards of 2017

2017 is looking to be another succesful year for our Youth Media Team, Ella and Kiera have already gained certificates from Saltire Award which aims to recognise the time given to volunteering for those aged 12 to 25 years.

Let's Get Quizzical

Lliam and Kacper from the Youth Media team have this week kicked off a new Youth Media show with a puzzling nature.

Every Wednesday, Lliam and Kacper aim to get their thinking hats on and quiz each other, as well as listeners and other youth media members, about everything from current events and news, to music and film, to sports and celebrities.

Youth Media come out to Celebrate Aberdeen

Saturday August 27th saw the return of the annual Celebrate Aberdeen parade to Union Street. As usual, shmu turned out in force for a great day alongside other third sector organisations, who all marched from Harlaw Academy to Castlegate to highlight the range and quality of work being done by these organisations across the city.

A Midsummer Night's Dream - AIYF 2016

On the 28th of July shmu's Youth Media Team were given the opportunity to go and see the Mitchell School of Drama's interpretation of a Midsummer Night's Dream. The first thing I noticed as I watched the performance was the vibrancy of the costumes the actors and actresses were wearing.
