Youth media investigate and experiment for British Science Week

March sees the return of Science Week, which takes place this year between 11 - 20 March. This national event attempts to engage and involve people in STEM fields – that is Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Thanks to the University of Aberdeen, shmu’s very own Youth Media team have been invited along to take part in the Science Week fun. On Tuesday, the team visited the university’s Zoology Building where they were treated to a workshop on DNA extraction as well as a presentation on genome mapping from Dr Alisdair MacKenzie who is currently conducting research at the University of Aberdeen.
As well as igniting an interest and being fun for the group, this will help the youth media team conduct their live show on Saturday, which is themed around science. Tune in to the Youth Media broadcast on Saturday morning between 10 am and 3pm on March 12th to hear a collaborative broadcast between the University of Aberdeen and shmu’s Youth Media team - where the team will be conducting some experiments live on air, and reporting back on the outcomes!
Listen live to shmu FM on 99.8fm in the Aberdeen area, or listen live here: http://www.shmu.org.uk/fm/listen
As well as the live radio broadcast, keep your eyes on the shmu youtube page in the next few weeks, as the Youth Media group will be filming the experiments from their Saturday show, and will be visiting the Aberdeen Science Centre on Saturday 19th March for Discovery Day.
