Youth Media summer school 2020

Each summer shmu’s Youth Media project offers a unique opportunity for new members to join the project and receive training in radio, filmmaking and journalism through our summer school. Thanks to funding from the Scottish Government's CashBack programme, we are delighted to announce that, despite the impact of Covid-19, that our summer school will be happening this year.

This summer due to social distancing and the ongoing COVID-19 situation, we will be offering an online programme for new participants of the Youth Media project. Members will get the opportunity to understand more about radio and filmmaking through zoom sessions and lessons which will be supported by our youth workers, before joining the wider youth media group sessions as we transition back to in-person youth work as it becomes safe to do so.

Regular youth media activities pre-lockdown include weekly radio live broadcasts, an Into Film group, weekly journalism sessions and weekly production meetings to plan broadcasts. We also hold regular science-based sessions and we anticipate that as we are able to do so safely, these activities will resume with social distancing measures.

Joining in with youth media activities is always free and is open to any young person in S1 upwards, who lives in or attends school in Northfield, Cummings Park, Middlefield, Woodside, Tillydrone, Seaton, or Torry.

If you or someone you know would like to be involved in Youth Media activities, please email lori.wilson@shmu.org.uk to find out more.
