Aberdeen Multicultural Centre Launch
On Wednesday 22nd July Aberdeen Multicultural Centre (AMC) held their opening event and are proud to announce that it was a huge success!
Among the guests sharing the privilege of introducing AMC to the public were: the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, MSP Lewis McDonald, and representatives from ACVO, GREC, Aberdeen City Council, Langstane Association, CEMVO, SCARF, RAS, shmuFM and many more, with a total of almost 70 people attending.
Magdalena Bereza, Development Officer at AMC said: "It brings joy to our hearts to see that there is such strong support for the multiagency work that this centre offers, a welcome recognition of the need to celebrate cultural diversity as a vital part of our community’s identity.
"We welcomed the Lord Provost’s words of encouragement and support for our aims and objectives that focus on allowing our diverse ethnic minority communities to participate in public life, to learn and develop the skills that will lead to successful integration, but most importantly, to be able to cultivate their native language and cultural heritage."
During the launch of the Centre, the Climate Challenge project was introduced to the guests.
Aberdeen Multicultural Centre’s Chairperson, Mr Nazmul Chowdhury signed Scotland’s Community Pledge, demonstrating the Centre’s support and commitment to taking local action on climate change. The MSP Lewis Macdonald highlighted the need for this project, especially in light of human activity having a high impact on our environment.
Dr Momtaz Haque, who is one of the Project’s Steering Group members, stressed the importance of the Climate Change project for the Bengali community. He will encourage the community to actively engage with all strands of the project, which are sustainable travel, for example cycling, reduction of food waste, home energy efficiency and home food growing.
Guests enjoyed the opportunity for networking and many new partnerships were initiated, as well as those which already existed being refreshed by new ideas and community initiatives.
The excellent catering prepared by Mr Chowdhury and the samosas, in particular, were a highlight of the evening!
