Request Show Goes Live!

Email requestshow@shmu.org.uk to hear your request played!

David and Kenny's Request Show has been proving very popular with shmuFM listeners since the show joined the schedule back in February 2012.

The show features a variety of music requested by listeners, with lively and entertaining chat from presenters David McBain and Kenny Bruce.

Previously recorded in advance, the pair will begin broadcasting their unique show live on shmuFM at 3pm on Thursday 29th August.

Broadcasting live on the station has been a major goal for the two Woodside residents, who each have a learning disability.

David and Kenny initially attended the free radio training sessions offered to people living in shmu’s target communities, and quickly mastered presenting techniques and using the radio equipment in the studios.

The duo worked with Adele – shmuFM’s Radio Support Worker – and came up with the idea of hosting a weekly request show for the station.

Kenny and David began collecting requests and pre-recording their show every Thursday afternoon until both presenters and staff agreed they were ready to begin broadcasting the show live.

Radio Development Worker, Lesley said, “David and Kenny were both incredibly enthusiastic and dedicated trainees, and have gone on to demonstrate the same qualities as presenters of the Request Show – the guys pull together all of the requests and operate the desk in the radio studio – they only require a little support to read out any tricky song titles or band names.  It’s a great listen because David and Kenny really enjoy doing the show and that definitely comes across, plus you never know what song is going to come up next.”

If you would like David and Kenny to play your request in an upcoming show, please email requestshow@shmu.org.uk.

David and Kenny’s Request Show is broadcast at 3pm on Thursdays, and repeated at 1pm on Saturdays, on 99.8FM.
