57 North Presents: Before Stories

This week on 57° North Presents, we're delighted to feature Before Stories! They will appear live on the show on Monday the 30th of October from 8-10pm, playing tracks from their across their latest EP To Fill These Lungs, and filling us in on all things Before Stories.

Community Magazine Open Day

The hard-working volunteers behind the shmuPRESS strand are offering the public an exciting chance to come and find out more about the project.

They have organised a drop in open-day which will take place on Friday the 3rd of November in the new shmu premises on Ashgrove Road West between 11am and 3pm.

Abba Great Time at HMT

"Mama Mia!", the smash hit musical, based on the music of ABBA, kicked off a month-long long at His Majesty's Theatre this week. Actually, it high kicked, it shimmied and it absolutely shone! Written by "the boys in the band", Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, now both in their 70s, Mama Mia!

BFI Film Academy 2019 - Apply Now!

Applications are open for the fifth Aberdeen BFI Film Academy course, which runs from October 2019 until February 2020. Funded by the BFI and Creative Scotland and working in partnership with NESCOL and the Belmont Filmhouse, the prestigious course will include masterclasses from a range of professionals, culminating in the production of two short films. Participants are expected to commit to weekly sessions and occasional training and filming over weekends (see the programme below for further details).

Longtime Youth Media host moves on

Tuesday was a day of mixed emotions at shmu as one of our Youth Media presenters Natasha hosted her last Music Madness live show on shmu FM.

Natasha has been involved in Youth Media for over seven years, and has been involved in several projects at shmu including the Youth Radio Project and BFI Film Academy, as well as Youth Film, Radio and Music through the wider Youth Media project.

Evening of World Dance & Music

On the 2nd August 2017, the Youth Media Team were given the opportunity to go along and see the Evening of World Dance & Music at the Tivoli theatre. They were treated to a variety of different acts from around the world. First off to start the show was the Nkrabea Dance Ensemble with their spectacular performance of Jerah.
