Band of the Week: Dear John

Electronic melodic noise three-piece

This week on shmuFM, we've got Dear John as our Band of the Week - you can hear them live on the Band Of The Week Show on Monday the 1st of September from 8-10pm, where they'll be chatting about everything Dear John.

You can hear Dear John's tracks on not only the BotW Show, but also any of our other live shows, by getting in touch with the studio on 01224 483413, by texting 60300 (type SHMU, leave a space and then your message) or by emailing studio@shmu.org.uk.

Dear John are an electronic-melodic-noise 3 piece based in the North East of Scotland. Combining loops, abstract sounds and industrial elements with their heavy, energetic live vibe, Dear John have created a sound that can only be described as "Synthetic Ultima Drunge".

Formed by friends, Dear John recorded their demo in 2005 with Glaswegian solo artist Rico who has worked with influential musicians such as Tricky and Gary Numan. Dear John continued to write and gig until their original bassist travelled overseas.

After a short break, a new bassist was recruited and Dear John revived themselves on the Aberdeen music scene. In March 2014, Dear John were hailed as joint winners of the Fat Hippy Battle of the Bands, which saw over 100 Scottish bands and solo acts enter.

As a result of this, Dear John, now signed to Fat Hippy Records, took to the studio in May and set about recording and mixing their electric 8-track debut album 'Synthetic Ultima Drunge'. Working with special guests including actor Scott Ironside; fellow Scottish musicians, Craig John Davidson and Leanne Smith has allowed Dear John to create with local artists they admire in order to produce an authentic sounding album.

In August 2014, Dear John released their first digital download 3 track single 'Live In You' through Fat Hippy Records on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.  It placed in the top 100 on the iTunes Alternative Chart.

On September 1st 2014, Dear John look forward to releasing their debut album 'Synthetic Ultima Drunge' in both physical and digital form.

The Band Of The Week Show is repeated every Friday at midnight until 2am on 99.8FM, and you can listen to the show here on our website using the live stream or Listen Again feature.
