Band of the Week: Hoodoo Zephyr

Hoodoo Zephyr confuse genres on shmuFM

This week's featured band is Hoodoo Zephyr! You can hear them live on the Band Of The Week Show on Monday the 31st of August from 8-10pm, where you'll hear some of their studio tracks, and some acoustic tunes live - as well as getting to know the band and what they're up to.

Hailing from Aberdeenshire, Scotland, punk-folk rock quartet Hoodoo Zephyr have turned the genres on their heads to create a sound that at one moment rocks a crowd to a frenzy, and in another soothes them back down with songs that croon with their rich Scottish heritage.

Hoodoo Zephyr consider no genre sacred and will happily plunder the musical possibilities of reggae, punk, folk, olde-worlde ballads, rock, and anything else that takes our fancy. This has led to some interesting musical concoctions such as the metal-reggae version of ‘Donald Faur’s Yer Troosers?’

They are currently recording a new CD that “manages to sound bang up to date while being rooted in the kind of music that was filling venues a few years back.”

To request Hoodoo Zephyr's tracks on any of our live shows by getting in touch with us on 01224 483413, by texting 60300 and starting your message with SHMU then a space, or by emailing us on studio@shmu.org.uk.

The Band Of The Week Show is repeated every Friday at midnight until 2am on 99.8FM, and you can listen to the show here on our website using the live stream or Listen Again feature.
