Band of the Week: Iona Mathieson Ross

Local singer-songwriter Iona stars on shmuFM

This week on shmuFM, our featured artist is Iona Mathieson Ross - you can her live on the Band Of The Week Show on Monday the 6th of October from 8-10pm, where you'll get to know Iona, about her and her life, what she's up to, her tunes, why she writes them and more.

Iona Mathieson Ross is a singer/songwriter. Having grown up with music-loving family on the west coast of Scotland, Iona was influenced by its breathtaking landscape and wild seas from a very early age - she learned to row a boat at the age of two and a half.

The natural world and Animal Kingdom have always featured strongly in her poetry and songs, but it has taken a good few decades for the circle to complete itself - it wasn’t until she found herself in an isolated situation that the music returned in full force.

The catalyst was the creation of a garden, which seemed to open up a doorway to a full spectrum of sound, like going from mono to stereo. Having travelled and worked abroad, Iona has really appreciated other cultures and world music – all of which she has absorbed, and you’ll be able to hear this eclectic mix on the Band of the Week Show.

As well as the Band of the Week Show, you can hear Iona Mathieson Ross's tracks on any of our live shows by getting in contact with the studio on 01224 483413, by texting 60300 (type SHMU, leave a space and then your message) or by emailing studio@shmu.org.uk.

The Band Of The Week Show is repeated every Friday at midnight until 2am on 99.8FM, and you can listen to the show here on our website using the live stream or Listen Again feature.
