Band of the Week: Jenny Sturgeon

This week, our featured artist on shmuFM is Jenny Sturgeon! You can hear her throughout the entire week, and you can also catch her on the Band of the Week Show on Monday the 15th of December, which broadcasts every Monday night from 8-10pm.
Jenny Sturgeon grew up in rural Aberdeenshire and has always had an affinity with traditional Scottish music. Since moving back to Aberdeen in 2012 to start a PhD in seabird ecology, singer-songwriter Jenny Sturgeon re-engaged with the local music scene, gigging regularly with the New Distillery Ceilidh Band. Earlier this year I released a 6 track CD ‘Source to Sea’.
Working with Claire Mulholland and local storyteller Grace Banks, Jenny has written two songs based on their tales of ‘The Two Sisters’ and ‘The Maiden Stone’ - the latter was recently recorded for the Scottish Culture and Tradition (SCaT) songbook.
Jenny is also a member of ‘New Voices’, a group which has been set up to promote and support songwriting in the North East of Scotland. You can hear Jenny’s tracks right here on shmuFM, and if you like what you hear, remember that you can request them on any live show!
You can hear any of Jenny's tracks on any of our live shows by getting in contact with the studio on 01224 483413, by texting 60300 (type SHMU, leave a space and then your message) or by emailing studio@shmu.org.uk.
The Band Of The Week Show is repeated every Friday at midnight until 2am on 99.8FM, and you can listen to the show here on our website using the live stream or Listen Again feature.
