Band of the Week: The Mamertines

Alt-punk rock trio The Mamertines feature on shmuFM

This week on shmuFM, we're delighted to feature The Mamertines! You can hear them live on the Band of the Week Show on Monday the 5th of October from 8-10pm. You'll hear tracks from their new EP Generation Autopilot, as well as finding out everything you ever wanted to know about The Mamertines.

The Mamertines is a trio of alternative punk rock-playing delinquents who: “decided to pick up some instruments in a last ditch effort to scrape together some cash to escape the grim seaside town in which they are trapped”.

Drawing influence from bands such as Queens Of The Stone Age, Cancer Bats, Biffy Clyro, The Bronx and Sonic Youth (to name a few), these 3 young punks somehow manage to make a coordinated effervescent noise which, surprisingly, doesn't suck. But don't take our word for it! Here are some genuine quotes!

"Well, it doesn't suck."- Some Guy On Twitter
"That's nice, dear…" - Alexander's Mum
"Wow, that actually sounds like a song!"- Andy's sister

If you like what you hear, you can request any of The Mamertine's tracks on any of our live shows by getting in contact with the studio on 01224 483413, by texting 60300 (type SHMU, leave a space and then your message) or by emailing studio@shmu.org.uk. You can also head over to their Soundcloud to hear their debut EP!

The Band Of The Week Show is repeated every Friday at midnight until 2am on 99.8FM, and you can listen to the show here on our website using the live stream or Listen Again feature.
