Band of the Week: Robbie Flanagan

Local singer-songwriter returns to shmuFM

This week we have Robbie Flanagan back for his second appearance on the shmuFM Band of the Week Show. He's live on air from 8-10pm tonight (Monday October 7th), on 99.8fm or listen in via the FM page on our website.

Robbie Flanagan is a singer-songwriter from Aberdeen who first started playing electric guitar around the age of 14. He grew up listening to the likes of Nirvana, Sonic Youth and The Cure and played in several bands until he finally decided to go it alone at the age of 20, at which point he started playing acoustic guitar and learning the styles of fingerpicking.

He then started listening to music by artists like Nick Drake, Elliott Smith and Scott Matthews and has been playing music live as a solo artist for about two-and-a-half years and has played all around Aberdeen and further afield.

He describes his style as melancholy alternative folk and he hopes to travel with his music. He has an 8-track album available to buy on his Bandcamp (robbieflanagan.bandcamp.com) which came out earlier this year and you can check out his Facebook page to see when and where he’s gigging next.
