Band of the Week: Shangri-La

Local indie rockers feature on shmuFM

Our featured band this week on shmuFM is Shangri-La - you can hear them live on the Band Of The Week Show on Monday the 25th of August from 8-10pm, where you'll hear Shangri-La's debut EP Control, some live tracks, and generally get to know the band.

Shangri-La is an energetic three-piece indie rock band from Aberdeen. They have just released their debut EP 'Control', and are looking to keep moving upwards after the praise of the EP within its first week of release. The EP broke into the top 100 in the Alternative Album Charts in the first week, and is currently sitting at 93 as the band set up for their upcoming festival appearance at Mid-Fest in Edinburgh on the 7th of September.

The band consists of Levi Kelman on Vocals and Guitar, Thomas Robertson on Bass and Matthew Norval on drums. Major Vibe had some good words about the boys, saying: "the EP will have you on your feet, dancing about in a matter of seconds", and also noting: "catchy vocal melodies and tight rhythms right from the opening beat." 2014 is set to be a good year for Shangri-La, so expect more to come from them both live and on the release front within the coming months.

As well as the Band of the Week Show, you can hear Shangri-La's tracks on any of our live shows by getting in contact with the studio on 01224 483413, by texting 60300 (type SHMU, leave a space and then your message) or by emailing studio@shmu.org.uk.

The Band Of The Week Show is repeated every Friday at midnight until 2am on 99.8FM, and you can listen to the show here on our website using the live stream or Listen Again feature.

Shangri-La's frontman performed a couple of acoustic tunes for us on the night - you can check them out below:
