Band of the Week Show is 2 years old

Special anniversary show this Monday

This Monday night sees the two-year anniversary of the shmuFM Band of the Week Show and hosts Mark E and Jaimi Ray will be celebrating with a collection of the finest moments from the last 12 months, broadcasting live on 99.8FM from 8-10pm.

Although the shmuFM Band of the Week project has been running for over 4 years now, the dedicated Monday night show, with live guests, was first launched in August 2011.

The presenters have remained the same - bar a few grey hairs - during this time, apart from the odd week when special guest presenters have been called in to save the day.

In the last two years, almost 100 local bands/solo artists have featured on the show, many of whom have used it as a launching pad for greater success.

Rappers Shy & DRS have been the city's greatest export in their genre, while Cara Mitchell went on to feature on BBC Radio 1 and support Emeli Sandé at The Music Hall. Perhaps the biggest success has been Amber Wilson, who joined Bombay Bicycle Club as a vocalist and went on their world tour, playing to massive audiences at festivals across the globe.

Recently, we've been able to capture the live tracks performed in the studio during the show and have posted these songs on our Soundcloud page. Perennial shmu favourites UTN played their track Showgirls in the studio a few weeks back.

There won't be a band in the studio this week as the show will be dedicated to celebrating the best bits of the last 12 months of Band of the Week. You can tune in via the link on our website, or on 99.8FM if you live in or around Aberdeen.

The anniversary show comes hot on the heels of our announcement of a series of shmuFM Band of the Week Live gigs, which you can read about here.
