Band of the Week: Watchfires

Watchfires feature on shmuFM to promote debut album

This week's featured band is Watchfires! You can hear them live on the Band Of The Week Show on Monday the 6th of April from 8-10pm, where you'll hear some of their studio tracks from their anticipated debut album - as well as just getting to know the band and what they're up to.

Watchfires is an indie-rock five-piece, developing a reputation in the city for energetic live shows and big choruses.

Watchfires released their debut album Ribbons & Shards at the weekend at The Lemon Tree. Ribbons & Shards is a collection of 12 new songs: a mixture of the raw, punk-influenced energy of their debut EP, and a newly-discovered epic streak that lends the new material an added texture and maturity.

Whether it’s straight-up rock (‘An Atlas and an Anger’), piano-led introspection (‘Gilmorehill’) or soaring, multi-sectional epics (‘Elisabeth’), Ribbons & Shards is marked with skyscraping crescendos, sparse atmospherics, and everything in between.

The debut single, ‘The Northern Lights’, is available as a free download from Soundcloud and Bandcamp

You can request any of their tracks on any of our live shows by getting in touch with us on 01224 483413, by texting 60300 and starting your message with SHMU then a space - also, please leave your name so we know who to dedicate it to - or by emailing us on studio@shmu.org.uk.

The Band Of The Week Show is repeated every Friday at midnight until 2am on 99.8FM, and you can listen to the show here on our website using the live stream or Listen Again feature.
