shmu Rap Project gig at The Lemon Tree

This Thursday sees the first of two rap gigs at The Lemon Tree organised by young rappers and promoters as part of the shmu Rap Music Project. The project, which was funded by Creative Scotland, consists of three courses: Beat-making, Lyricism, and Gigs & Promotions, as well as a monthly open-mic night at Downstairs, recording slots and regular masterclasses with experienced artists.

Participants are working with John Anderson of 57north.org and The Lemon Tree’s Steven Milne to learn about all aspects of organising and promoting live music.

The gig, which is free entry with a suggested donation of £3, is on Thursday 2nd of April, doors at 7:30pm, at The Lemon Tree, featuring a line-up including local artists such as:

Jackill
Nabu
Koncept
Jazza
RansomFA
Jonathan Wick
Ill Collective

The second Gigs & Promotion course will start at the end of April, when a new set of participants will have the chance to organise two further gigs at The Lemon Tree. If you’re under 25 and are interested in getting involved, please contact simon.gall@shmu.org.uk or keep an eye on the shmu Rap Music Project Facebook Page for updates.
