shmuFM Band of the Week: Singularity

This week, we've got local all-female a cappella group Singularity as our shmuFM Band of the Week. You can hear the quartet live on the show on Monday the 3rd of February from 8-10pm.
Singularity is an all-female a cappella quartet. They got together about two and a half years ago, and are all part of a much larger ensemble - the Aberdeen Chorus of Sweet Adelines.
They sing four-part a cappella in the barbershop style. Barbershop is an American art form, and they believe that it was Aberdeen's oil connections, and the many Americans who lived here in the seventies, that sparked Aberdeen's interest in barbershop.
Male barbershop singing has long been a tradition in America, and the story goes that women - fed up with their menfolk going out, singing all the time and having all the fun - got together to sing and establish an organisation for themselves.
The Aberdeen Chorus meets on a Monday night at the Westburn Bowling Club lounge at the Westburn Park. All women are welcome to come and listen and, if they wish, try a bit of harmony singing themselves - they’re always on the lookout for new members!
Remember, the Band of the Week Show is repeated every Friday at midnight until 2am on 99.8fm, and you can listen to the repeat at any time, right here.
