Young People at the Controls for Latest Referendum Debate

YRP host referendum debate

shmuFM’s Youth Radio Project have held a live debate focusing on the Scottish Independence Referendum. On Saturday the 13th of September members of the Youth Radio Project interviewed Councillors David Cameron and Barney Crockett to discuss the key aspects of the Scottish Independence Referendum.

Councillor Cameron represented the Yes Campaign while Councillor Crockett debated on behalf of the Better Together Campaign. The debate took place as part of a two hour special feature on the upcoming referendum. Between 11am and 12pm some of the younger members of the team discussed the process and history of voting while the older participants planned questions for the Councillors.

Fraser, Amy and Connor then took the helm at 12pm to question the Councillors on the main issues that they wanted to discuss. The Councillors stayed on at the end of the session to answer any other questions that the young people had.

Adele Keith, Radio Development Worker said: “I was extremely proud and impressed with the young people and the knowledge that they already had. They dealt with a very complex topic in a very mature manner.”

This debate was part of the wider coverage which shmuFM has given the upcoming Scottish Independence Referendum over the last 12 weeks. You can listen again here:
